Light Bulbs that are Also Air Fresheners
The ability to reduce and even eliminate odors is probably not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of light bulbs. The technology utilized in these light bulbs has been known to scientists for many more years than these light bulbs have been available. Titanium oxide has long been known to reduce and eliminate odors through its interaction with certain wavelengths of light, but it was in the last decade that manufactures began using this knowledge.
Technical Consumer Products (TCP) launched its Fresh2 series several years ago. Energy efficient TCP Fresh2 compact fluorescent light bulbs are given a coating of titanium oxide. The fluorescent light provided by the CFL itself is the correct wavelength, and when the titanium oxide coating interacts with this light, chemicals called oxidizers are produced and spread around. These oxidizers are what nullify odors. It's important that Fresh2 light bulbs are open to the airflow in a room; do not install these light bulbs in recessed or closed fixtures.
If you have proper airflow enveloping a Fresh2 compact fluorescent light bulb, it will reduce and then eliminate odors. Consider a fan on a low setting circulating air around and through the light bulb. A good size room for optimal reach of the Fresh2 light bulb is about 12' by 12'. Whether you have cats, dogs, or other animals that can produce odors, this odor-eliminating energy efficient light bulb will get the job done.
In the years since TCP released the Fresh2, compact fluorescent technology has only gotten better. New Fresh2 light bulbs are even more efficient and effective at eliminating odors. Try one in your kitchen; turn it on 10 to 15 minutes before you begin cooking, and any smells created shouldn't get much farther than the light bulb. If you like the two birds with one stone paradigm, you'll love this light bulb.
