Buy (RED) save lives

Manufacture Products(Product) RED is an organization with non-profitable purpose, which pours its funds in The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. This commercial program was created by partner companies who gives to the program some of benefits generated by special products created especially for (Product) RED.

Play more than music.
Play a part. - Apple[1]
Dieses Knol in deutscher Sprache: Product Red

Product Red
, visually represented by the logo (PRODUCT)RED , is a brand licensed to partner companies such as American Express, Apple, Converse, Motorola, Gap, Emporio Armani, Hallmark, Microsoft, Dell and Starbuck. It is an initiative launched by U2, Bono and Bobby Shriver of Debt AIDS Trade Africa (DATA) to raise money for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Each partner company created a product with the logo (Product) Red. A percentage of their revenue through product they sell is granted to the Global Fund. Each company give a percentage different to Product Red. Sometimes, they keep more money than they give.

The numbers don't lie: More than 4, 400 people die every day from AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa, and almost 2, 000 children are infected with HIV each day. The Global Fund's (PRODUCT) RED initiative directs up to 50 percent of gross profits toward African AIDS programs focusing on the health of women and children. Since its introduction, (PRODUCT) RED has delivered over $100 million to the Global Fund. And now you can make an impact by purchasing (PRODUCT) RED. [1]

With the help of (Product) Red, the Global Fund saves a lot of people. As of 1 December 2008, with Global Fund resources,

  • 2 million people are receiving antiretroviral treatment
  • 62 million HIV counselling and testing sessions were conducted
  • 3.2 million orphans were provided with medical services, education and community care [2]

The products

The (Product) Red are [3]:

  • American Express Red card
  • Gap sells a line of clothing including t-shirts are made in Africa and are grown from African cotton. There are also bracelets, necklaces, pins, candles. (50% of the revenue goes to (Product) Red)
  • Converse is selling shoes manufactured in Africa
  • Apple Inc. invented two generations of special edition of iPod (nano and shuffle)
  • NEED magazine is a partner of Product Red
  • Dell created three computers (M1330, M1530 and XPS One)
  • Microsoft and Dell have pledged to set up a new Dell laptop, which contained a new SKU called Vista Ultimate (Product) Red
  • Windows Vista Ultimate (Product) Red SKU includes: 6 Wallpapers and other "bonus" Red, such some themes for Windows Live Messenger [7: Download link below] or the blog Live Spaces RED
  • Starbucks Coffee has released 3 Red Exclusive Beverage

Guiding principles

(Product) Red states that its main principles and goals are to: [4]

  • Expanding opportunities for the people of Africa
  • Promoting HIV / AIDS at the political and commercial community
  • See the power of a community mobilized for hope, health and progress
  • Demonstrate respect for its employees and ask its partners to do likewise with their employees. Those will make their products and services a guarantee of quality

In addition, the organization ask to the partners to follow the same guidelines as (Product) Red

Criticism

The main criticism of the program insist that it is always better to give directly to an organization. [5] A lot of companies don't tell in what proportion they give to the Global Fund, and this "hided" donation is sometimes less efficient than they are trying to demonstrate. Many of people told (Product) Red to rework on the main principles, for adding for instance a clause asking the industries to write clearly how many do they give. [6]

Alternatives programs were born for discouraging the consumer to buy more with the excuse: "we give to the AIDS!". A lot of people thought they really gave to the AIDS, but it's in a smaller proportion than they think. For citing just one program, BUY (LESS) CRAP, giving advices like where or how to give directly to the African community, and explain why give directly is better than buy products from a financial model like this.

why the chinese system is great for america?
The way it is in china: huge gap between the rich and poor. 98% of the wealth (rough guess) is controlled by less than .01% of the population. But so few people cannot spend all that money, not in a lifetime, and not in ten lifetimes. So essentially most of the goods we get from china are for free, since they aren't going to buy anything back from us, because the lower class can't afford anything, and the upper class has everything they need and want as it is, even with only spending a fraction of their wealth. How it could be - if china would be more similar to other developed nations such as the US, the money they make from manufacturing products for us would go mostly to the workers and the middle class. Then, with the wealth distributed more evenly among the people and the workers, they would buy back goods from the US, and cash in their dollars, until they would be buying most of what we make, not to mention the land that they would be buying from us as well. The chinese slave masters have no motive or incentive for causing anything to go wrong with the US. They love the US, and they love taking their million dollar vacations in vegas and elsewhere. And they love the inventions and innovations that the US comes up with, which simply isn't possible in somewhere like china where such a large percentage of the people are factory workers making a dollar a week. They "love" their people for making them trillionares, and the system is beneficial both for the US and for the people in control in china. So the huge gap between the rich and poor in china, is very good for us in the US. The ones on the losing side, are the poor factory workers in china, with everyone else gaining but them. is this the right category? or is it the length of the question? or both?

What is best to use for an under-eye moisturixer?
I'd like to try something natural... I've heard heavy creme, olive oil, avocado, and other natural things may work better than lotions and manufactured products...Does anyone tried these natural remedies for under-eye dryness? I'm not even 30yo but my under-eye area is always very dry. Not having luck with lotions,. Yes, I drink almost only water and make it a point to eat healthy and exercise everyday.. I practically NEVER wear makeup so that couldn't be doing it...In every other way I am healthy but I can't get the sensitive skin directly under my eyes(where you apply eyeliner) to stop being dry and flaky. HELP.

I love this FORD ad that slams the Obama auto bailouts, what do you think of it?
http://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/washington-whispers/2011/09/16/ford-tv-ad-slams-obama-auto-bailouts I'll go one step further and say that I won't even buy a FORD. Reason, FORD is beholden to the United Auto Workers just like GM. I only purchase non union manufactured products if I can, if that means buying from another country to make a point, well, it is what it is. If you buy union products a fraction of your dollar will go to supporting a democrat for election, just look at the union campaign contributions. Democrats, once elected will support labor unions and trade unions thus continuing the destruction of America. A better link http://nation.foxnews.com/ford/2011/09/09/anti-bailout-ford-ad-goes-viral
