Canine Health: Dog Lifespans, Which Breeds Live Longest - And Why

The Life Expectancy Of The Dog

Health ProductsSome dog breeds live longer than others. This knol looks at the average life expectancy of popular breeds - and the reasons why some strains of canine die young.

Introduction
Longest: Miniature Poodle

The oldest dog on record was an Australian cattle dog called Bluey. He was put to sleep at the age of 29 years and 5 months. [1]

Most canines, however, live considerably shorter lives than this. Scientists are constantly learning more about the factors that dictate the average lifespan of different breeds.

Dogs that resemble wolves live longer, for instance. While there are exceptions to this rule, the shape of a dog's face is generally a strong indicator of its likely lifespan.

The sharper and more wolf-like it is the more likely it is to live a relatively long life. The flatter the face, the shorter the lifespan, on average.[3]

Which Breeds Live Longest

The most authoritative study of canine lifespans in the UK was published in 1999 by the Veterinary Record, the magazine of the British Veterinary Association. [2] The study revealed some surprising facts. For instance, mongrels tend to live longer than most pedigree dogs, only 8 per cent of dogs live beyond the age of 15 and 64 per cent die or are put to sleep because of illness. Cancer is responsible for 16 per cent of deaths, twice as much as heart disease. While some terrier breeds can live for an average of 13 or 14 years, breeds like the Irish wolfhound can live for less than half this time, often as little as six years. The study also compiled a list of the average lifespan of the most popular breeds:

Name for health/coffee product?
For a school Health project I am supposed to create an advertisement for a health product. The only problem is I can't think of a name for the actual thing. It's a ginseng-esque type of coffee that helps raise your metabolism and decrease the amount of bad carbs that your body takes in and what not. if it sounds totally implausible, i'm sorry. i honestly dont have a clue what im talking about here. Also, my in-depth description of the product isn't necessary for the project!!! :D YAY ME! lol thanks everyone

Can MALE PATTERN BALDNESS really be stopped and reversed with SAW PALMETTO and BETA-SITO STEROL?
I've read that taking these supplements can prevent baldness by blocking DHT (dihydrotestosterone), the bad hormone that causes many middle aged men to start going bald. Does it really work? Has it worked for you? I've noticed that I'm starting to go bald on the top parts of my head so I've started taking 320 milligrams of standardized saw palmetto extract morning and night along with 2 grams of pumpkin seed oil. I also take a prostate health supplement that has 160 milligrams of beta-sito sterol. It's interesting how prostate health supplements use all the same stuff as is supposed to stop hair loss. This is because, as I've read anyway, that the same rogue hormone DHT is one of the causes of prostate problems. Is this true? If it is really that simple how come every balding person hasn't started these supplements or been told about them? I've been researching how to save my hair and have always been into natural health and health products and I've read that these DHT blocking supplements, also including zinc, gamma linolenic acid and a few others depending on how you combine them, work as good or better than the prescription drug Propecia. Is this true?

Which Class Should I Register For?!?
Okay, here's a little background. I'm going to school to become a nurse. As of now, I'm registered for the class called Clothing and People, which I'm not very thrilled about. I want to register for the class called Consumer Health. Here's a description of both. Clothing & People: Relationship of clothing to people from cultural, social, psychological, economic and aesthetic perspectives. Consumer Health: This a course designed to examine health products, services, and information from the consumer's perspective. Emphasis will be placed on those factors that influence and ultimately determine which products, services, and information sources that you will either accept or reject. The thing is, I already have 4 classes on Mondays, so if I registered for consumer health, I'd have 5 classes on Monday. The class is from 6-8:50 on Mondays. If I dropped clothing and people, I'd only have 2 classes on Tuesday, which, I admit, would be nice. But the Mondays would be rough. Advice?!

How do you assess your own congregation?
My congregation/religion is like a state inside state of the Philippines. Our ceremony is broadcast in entire globe via satellite. We have our own TV station, producer of health products, own university, home for the aged, medical services, own movie production, rolling school worth millions, free ride. What is amazing is that members and guests confine serious problem to presiding minister. Like a lady troubled with properties squandered by a husband. Meaning we have our own court. Can you related similar or more amazing situation? I hope this will not be considered "libel". I love my religion. I just want to know at my age since I work in an environment for long at dpwh.

can any one help me with commercial law?
please help me evaluate my answer that i attempted. QUESTION 3 Last week Phil, a collector of rare and unique musical instruments, advertised in the local community newspaper the sale of several musical instruments. Included were three trombones for $300 each and four saxophones for $400 each. As well, Phil asked his young son Ben to prepare multiple copies of a handout sheet outlining the same information and to deliver these to all the letter-boxes in the community. Phil agreed to pay Ben $20 for this work. On the 1 May, responding to the advertisement, Brett offered Phil $250 for one of the trombones. Phil asked for $280. Brett said he would think about it. Phil agreed to leave this offer open for 10 days. On the 2 May, after reading the letterbox handout, Sarah called Phil accepting to buy one of the saxophones for $400. Phil explains to Sarah that he no longer wishes to sell his saxophones. Phil has now decided not to sell his trombone collection. Phil also refuses to pay his son, Ben the $20. REQUIRED: Applying any relevant case law principle, discuss and fully advise whether Phil has any contract with any party. (10 marks) phil v ben a)Firstly, phil and ben is a father and son relationship. Thus, presumably, in the law, any social and domestic agreement is no intention to create legal relations-balfour v balfour1919;choo tiong hin v choo hock swee 1959;de cruz andrea Heidi v Guangzhou yuzhitang health products co ltd and others 2003.however, if it can be proven that ben is serious about the contract, which he really have because he really did prepare multiple copies of a handout sheet outlining the same information and to deliver these to all the letter-boxes in the community. If he knows that he wouldn?t be paid, he would not be doing this, thus is proven that they are serious and there is a intention-tan hin leong v lee teck imm2001;merritt v merritt 1970.thus there is a contract between them. Phil v letterbox. b)when it is sent out in the letter box, has a unilateral contract be form? unilateral contract is an offer that can be addressed to a particular person, a group of people or to everyone-harvela investments ltd v royal trust co of Canada(ci)ltd & irs 1984; carlil v carbolic smokeball. However, not all newspaper advertisement in carlil v carbolic smokeball was held constitute an offer, that does not mean that all advertisement are offers. in fact, most of them are invitations to treat such as partidge v crittenden 1968. thus no contract is form when he place his advertisement in flyer as he can reject the offer. phil v brett c) On the 1 May, responding to the advertisement, Brett offered Phil $250 for one of the trombones. Phil asked for $280. Brett said he would think about it. Phil agreed to leave this offer open for 10 days.? from this sentence, and as we refer from phil v letter box b), he has his right to reject the offer. Furthermore, when he agreed to leave this offer open for 10days he does have the right to sell his trombones anytime to anyone else. because the rationale is that an offeree cannot enforce an offeror?s promise to keep his offer open unless there is a separate contract supported by consideration to do so. phil v sarah d)?On the 2 May, after reading the letterbox handout, Sarah called Phil accepting to buy one of the saxophones for $400. Phil explains to Sarah that he no longer wishes to sell his saxophones.? refering to this line, is explain in paragraph b) that he has the right to reject that offer simply because it is an invitation to treat.
